Second and third marriages can be wonderful — but they canalso make estate planning complicated, particularly when there are childrenfrom prior relationships.

Maybe you owned your home long before the marriage and always intended it to eventually pass to your children.

When you marry it becomes part of the marital estate and without proper planning, part could end up in the hands of your surviving spouse or your spouse’s children instead of your own.

So simply writing a will that says, “I leave my property to my children,” may not accomplish what you think it does.
